Microsoft SQL Server 2019 functions at a glance
Microsoft SQL Server 2019 is a relational database management system that was developed for managing, storing and analysing very large amounts of data. The data is stored in tables and linked via relationships between the tables. This makes it possible to efficiently store and analyse almost any amount of data.
With Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Express, Microsoft offers a completely free version that is ideal for desktop, web and small server applications and enables users to gain initial experience with relational database systems. Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Express can be downloaded directly from Microsoft.
The Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Developer programme is also available to download free of charge; this is a development and test database that can be used in a non-production environment. You can start the Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Developer Edition download via Offline Installer and use it free of charge.
After downloading the Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Standard ISO, however, you must purchase licences by the end of the evaluation period at the latest and be able to prove this during an audit. You have two licensing options to choose from: You can purchase a server licence and additional access licences (CAL), or you can licence the server software by processor cores (2Core licence), in which case you do not need any additional CALs.
