What is the difference between a used Microsoft Server 2025 licence and buying a new licence?
If you purchase used licences from Soft & Cloud, the only difference is the price. We only provide you with used and legal licence keys, which we purchase throughout Europe using a TÜV-certified process and offer at particularly favourable conditions. These are always 100% original licences that are no longer required due to staff reductions, insolvency or IT changes, for example, and are therefore offered for sale.
As Soft & Cloud has a strong industry network, we also offer a wide range of used software, including licences for older program versions as well as for current versions such as Windows Server 2025 - and our prices are up to 70 % lower. Soft & Cloud is also the first dealer for used software to offer a TÜV-certified licence transfer. This means that all legal requirements for a legal resale are met, as stipulated by the European Court of Justice in a ruling on 3 July 2012.
Licences for Windows Server 2025 in comparison
To operate Windows Server 2025, you need a sufficient number of server licences as well as additional access licences, so-called Client Access Licenses (CALs). Windows Server Remote Desktop Services (RDS) requires its own RDS CALs, which are required for access to terminal servers.
For large companies where it is not possible to allocate access precisely or which require a very large number of access licences, a Windows Server 2025 External Connector licence is a cost-effective option for access licensing. With the Windows Server 2025 External Connector, access for all external users to Windows Server 2025 (and previous versions) is licensed on a flat-rate basis, which is cheaper than individual licensing from around 50 CALs.
Windows Server licensing is core-based, which means that all physical cores of a server require a core licence. A minimum of 8 core licences is also required for each processor and a minimum of 16 Core-Lizenzen for each server. The server licences for the core-based editions Windows Server 2025 Standard and Windows Server 2025 Datacenter are available in packages with 2 or 16 cores. With the Standard edition, 2 virtual machines or 2 Hyper-V containers can be virtualised. Windows Server 2025 Datacenter enables an unlimited number of virtual machines and Hyper-V containers. This edition also offers unlimited storage replication (standard: max. 2 TB) and additional functions and features such as a hyper-converged infrastructure, software-defined storage and networks as well as shielded virtual machines.
